University of Limerick: Empowering Human-Centricity across their digital presence through UX Research

The University of Limerick is a public research university institution in Limerick, Ireland. The recently formed internal University web team contacted us to help them after they inherited 100+ subsites all with different stakeholders and owners. With many different contributors there was no central place for all work on the site, which began to create some issues for the team. They approached us in order to help create a better experience for both students and staff.

.

The Strategy

We began by fully immersing ourselves in the University of Limerick (UL) brand and understanding how the current website performs through data. We also wanted to ensure we became a part of the UL extended team through the whole project and helped to understand the challenges facing the internal team. The overall goal of the project was to create and deliver a better user experience for a diverse range of users of the University of Limerick website, focusing on inclusivity, accessibility, and usability.

The Solution

USER EXPERIENCE

We wanted to showcase the unique brand and values of UL whilst improving website navigation, site governance, language and content. We achieved this by conducting a wide range of research activities. Collaborative user journey planning for key audiences before defining and creating a suite of wireframes for both desktop and mobile.

They then distilled this research into understandable outputs which have gone on to form the bedrock of the next phase of our website redesign.

The impact

Our work with University of Limerick helped form the core of their website redesign project. By carrying out extensive research and truly understanding the needs of their users through wide in person stakeholder engagement across tech, online, marketing and student services. Dedicated comparative and competitive reviews across 3rd level education institutes locally and globally.User research was conducted in the form of interviews, usability studies and surveys as well as dedicated user research to inform taxonomy and information architecture decisions. And using this to inform decisions when it came to wire framing for the project.
